Victoria Redclift
LSE PhD in Sociology 2007-2010
Victoria was recently awarded her PhD in Sociology at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her research, entitled 'Histories of displacement and the creation of political space: Statelessness and citizenship in Bangladesh', investigates the temporal, spatial and social nuances of citizenship and political being among the 'Urdu-speaking minority' in Bangladesh.
Before commencing her doctoral research, Victoria obtained her BA in Ancient History (First Class) from Bristol University and worked for the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in London and the Spanish Committee for UNHCR in Spain. She went on to gain an MSc (with distinction) in Population and Development from LSE, writing a dissertation entitled 'Changes in family reunion migration from Bangladesh to the UK: Policy, gender and social ties'. She spent six months working as a research assistant at the Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (a Development Research Centre in Migration, Globalisation and Poverty) in Bangladesh before returning in 2007 to begin her PhD in Sociology.
At LSE she has taught second and third year undergraduates 'The Sociology of Race, Ethnicity and Migration' and she is currently teaching the undergraduate interdisciplinary LSE100 course.
