James Lines was born in 1927 and educated at Enfield Grammar School. After National Service as a subaltern in the Royal Engineers, he studied physics at University College Southampton. He then pursued a career in industrial management and management consultancy.
He first met Frederick Bonnart-Braunthal more than fifty years ago, when Freddy, then a Lieutenant in The Royal Signals, was spending six months in London in order to add yet another language to his extensive repertoire. They discovered that despite considerable differences in background and career, their core beliefs were closely aligned and they became close friends.
His main role is as Treasurer for the Trust, and he regards it a privilege to support Freddy’s vision of a world in which intolerance may, one day, be regarded as an historical aberration.
He is married with three children and two grandchildren and lives at Highgate in London. His other interests include travel, theatre and an abiding curiosity about the frontiers of scientific discovery.
