Following a 15-year career in international banking, in 1986 Theresa Lloyd established the corporate fundraising division of Save the Children, developing the concepts of cause-related marketing and corporate social responsibility which have become part of the business landscape. In 1990 she became the UK Director of ActionAid.
Since 1995 Theresa has been a leading adviser on strategic planning, governance and fundraising to charities. She also advises families on the development of a strategy for their philanthropy, including governance and procedures. She was Founder Director of Philanthropy UK, (2001 - 4) and now sits on the Advisory Board.
Her books include A Guide to Giving (2003); it provided the first comprehensive and independent advice on the development of strategies, and mechanisms and tax reliefs for individual donors. The third edition, sponsored by Coutts, was published recently. Why Rich People Give (2004) is the first major British study into the wealthy and their giving patterns, experiences and expectations. Cultural Giving (2006) is the first guide in the UK to focus on individual giving for the arts and heritage.
Theresa is currently a Trustee of The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign, The Young Vic, and The European Association of Planned Giving. She has recently become a Council member of Bath University. She is also a member of the Business Advisory Group of Comic Relief and of the Development Board of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
Theresa Lloyd has been a member of the Institute of Fundraising since 1987, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts since 1988.
Theresa is the daughter of a first cousin of Freddy Bonnart-Braunthal.
